NEW RESIDENTS GUIDE

New Residents Guide

Welcome to Russells Point! This one-page guide covers the essentials you need to know when moving to or living in the Village of Russells Point. Contact the village office if you need help — we’re glad you’re here. Village phone: 937-843-2245

About the Village (quick facts)

Russells Point is a small lakeside village on Indian Lake in Logan County. Local government information, minutes & agendas, ordinances, and public notices are all posted on this site under the Government section.

Animal Control

Pets must follow village leash and licensing rules. For stray or animal control issues contact the Village office or Logan County animal services. If you find a lost pet, call the village office for local guidance.

Auto Tags & Driver’s License Renewal

Renew vehicle registration and driver’s licenses through the Ohio BMV. Online services are available for many renewals; for in-person help use the nearest Logan County BMV location. Keep proof of residency handy for title/registration transactions.

Building Inspection, Permits & Zoning

Home improvements, decks, additions, and fences typically require permits and inspections. The Village posts ordinances and permit forms; for plan review or complex projects contact the Logan County Building Authority. Always check zoning rules before starting work.

Businesses & Economic Development

Interested in opening or expanding a business? The Village welcomes economic development inquiries; the Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is also a great resource for marketing, visitor traffic, and membership.

Education

Russells Point students are served by local school districts in the area—check district boundaries for your address and contact schools directly for enrollment. Logan County also offers adult and continuing education resources. (Local library branches support homework help and digital resources.)

Fire & Carbon Monoxide Detectors / Emergency Response

Fire protection for the Village is provided by the Indian Joint Fire District (volunteer/combined services). Install and test smoke and CO detectors per manufacturer instructions; if you have fire or EMS needs call 911. For non-emergencies contact the Indian Joint Fire District.

Gas Aggregation & Utility Options

Residents may participate in regional gas or electric aggregation programs or choose retail suppliers in Ohio’s deregulated energy market. For village water/sewer questions, see the Village Water Department page and contact the Village office for bills and service questions.

Golf Cart Registration & Rules

Russells Point allows limited golf-cart operation under village rules (where permitted). Cart owners should confirm registration/inspection requirements with village hall and follow street/lighting rules. Contact the Village office for the current policy.

Golf Cart & Unconventional Vehicle Permit

Library

Library services for Russells Point residents are provided by the Logan County Libraries system. Local newspapers and online community sites keep residents informed of events and emergency notices.

Housing & Residential Tax Abatements

If you are buying, renting, or renovating, check Village property maintenance rules and any local residential tax-abatement programs that might apply to new construction. The village can point you to current abatement policies and application forms.

Hydrant Flushing & Water Notices

Seasonal hydrant flushing or water-system work is posted on the Village website and through village notices — sign up for alerts or call the utilities department if you see discoloration or low pressure.

Organizations & Volunteer Groups

Russells Point has active community organizations, service groups, and faith communities that run events and volunteer opportunities. Contact the Village office to get plugged in.

Places of Assistance & Social Services

For food, housing support, and social services, Logan County 211 and local churches coordinate assistance programs and emergency support. The Village also lists local resources on request.

Property Maintenance Compliance

Russells Point enforces property maintenance and nuisance ordinances. If you receive a notice, contact village code enforcement for steps to comply. For contractor work, confirm permits first.

Public Safety & Police

For emergencies call 911. For non-emergencies, contact the Russells Point Police Department or the Village administrative office. The village posts public safety notices and community policing information on the official site and social channels.

Recreation & Parks

Russells Point harbor, local parks, marinas, and public beaches are neighborhood assets. Check the Village events calendar for seasonal programs, rules, and boat launch information.

Recreational Fires (backyard burn rules)

Open burning is regulated for safety. Residents should follow village rules for recreational fires and check county or state burn advisories. When in doubt, call the Village office or dispatch non-emergency fire contacts.

Snow Removal & Winter Rules

Snow removal, Snowplow routes, parking restrictions during snow events, and driveway shoveling expectations are managed by Village Public Works. Expect notices before major storms—move vehicles from streets when directed.

Trash Collection, Recycling & Yard Waste

Residential trash and recycling are handled by contracted haulers; Logan County Solid Waste provides recycling info and drop-off schedules. For pickup days, bulk items, and yard-waste rules contact the Village or your hauler (Republic Services / Rumpke serve parts of the area).

Village Council Meetings & Public Records

Council meeting dates, minutes, and agendas are posted on this website. Meetings are open to the public — attend to stay informed about local decisions.

If you work or live in the Village, check local income-tax requirements and deadlines. The Village website provides filing instructions and contact details for tax questions — contact the Village or a tax professional for help.

Voter Registration & Elections

Register to vote online with the Ohio Secretary of State’s portal or contact the Logan County Board of Elections for polling locations and absentee ballots. Check deadlines before elections.
