Services & Programs

ANNUAL INDIAN LAKE SAFETY TOWN

Safety Town is provided through a collaboration with Indian Lake Elementary and instructors from the Russells Point Police and Washington Township Police Departments. Lessons provide safety tips to kindergarteners each fall. The program includes pedestrian safety, traffic signals and signs, fire safety, good and bad touch, getting in cars with strangers, and the hazards of drugs among other things. Officers from the Ohio Division of Natural Resources and Wildlife will offer additional gun safety, boating, water, and park safety tips.

This program aims to reduce risk to our community's youngest explorers by reinforcing the simple concept of shared safety. After all, whose job is it to keep you safe?

Medicine Disposal

Safely dispose of unused prescription drugs in a secure drop box on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00am-4:30pm at the Russells Point Municipal Building

The Logan County Sheriff's Office also offers a secure drop box 24 hours a day in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office.

Public Health & Safety Concerns
Unused medications in homes create a public health and safety concern because they are highly susceptible to accidental ingestion, misuse, and abuse. To provide a means to dispose of unused, expired or unwanted prescription medicines, the Russells Point Police Department and Logan County Sheriff’s Office have a secure and anonymous Drug drop off container.

Legal & Environmentally Friendly Disposal
Common methods for disposing of unused medicines include flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, both pose potential safety and health hazards. The Drug Disposal program was implemented to ensure that unwanted medications are collected and destroyed using methods that are both legal and environmentally friendly.

House CheckS

If you are going to be away from your home for longer than 7 days the Russells Point Police Department offers a free house check service. Our officers complete on average just under 1,000 house checks each year. Although we cannot guarantee when your property will be checked officers will make every attempt to the check your property while on patrol.

Required Information
We require the House Check Form (Below) to be completed and returned to our office. The information you provide will be used to identify vehicles left at the residence, what lights you left on, and emergency contacts for you and a key holder in the area.

What Happens During the Check
During a security check an officer will walk the building perimeters, check doors and windows. Each check will be logged in our computer system for reference. If an officer believes there is a problem the key holder will be contacted immediately. If the key holder cannot be reached we will attempt to contact the property owner.
