SNOW REMOVAL
Snow Removal
The Village of Russells Point works to keep streets safe and passable during winter weather so residents can travel with confidence throughout the season. While the Village does not post a formal snow removal ordinance online, residents should follow these common winter-time expectations and safety tips to help maintain safe roadways for everyone.
Village Snow Plowing
STREET CLEARING
When snow or ice accumulates, Village crews prioritize clearing main roads and high-traffic areas first. Side streets and residential areas are cleared as weather and resources allow.
SNOW & ICE CONTROL
Plowing and sanding/salting operations are typical during winter storms to improve traction and safety on public roadways.
Resident Responsibilities
Keep snow off roadways
Residents are asked not to plow or place snow back into the street after clearing driveways or walkways — this helps maintain clear roads and reduces hazards for drivers and plow crews.
Clear sidewalks
While the Village focuses on streets, property owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks adjoining their property for safe pedestrian travel, in line with general Ohio practices.
Mailboxes and obstacles
Snowplows may create snow berms at driveways. Residents should take care when clearing snow and ensure mailboxes and other structures are set back safely from the roadway edge.
Winter Safety Tips
Plan ahead
During winter weather, allow extra time for travel and check road conditions before heading out.
Stay informed
Pay attention to winter storm watches, advisories, or warnings issued by the National Weather Service and local officials.
Keep hydrants clear
If there’s a fire hydrant near your home, clearing snow around it helps emergency responders in case of an emergency.
