PROPERTY MAINTENANCE

Property Maintenance

The Village of Russells Point is committed to maintaining clean, safe, and attractive neighborhoods for all residents. Property maintenance standards help protect public health, preserve property values, and ensure a high quality of life throughout the community.

Key Property Maintenance Standards

Keep Yards Clean and Tidy

Property owners are responsible for preventing the accumulation of trash, debris, and unsightly materials on their land. This includes general litter and discarded items that can detract from neighborhood appearance.

Control Weeds and Vegetation

Grass, weeds, and other vegetation must be kept trimmed and under control. Overgrown vegetation and noxious weeds are regulated so that properties remain neat and do not create hazards or nuisances.

Adopted Property Maintenance Code

The Village has adopted a property maintenance code based on the International Property Maintenance Code, which provides a standard for the care and upkeep of structures and properties to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the public.

Abandoned Property Program

To prevent blight and decline in residential areas, vacant and abandoned properties must be registered with the Village. This program helps ensure these properties are maintained and secured.

Enforcement

Village staff monitor compliance with maintenance standards and may issue notices when properties do not meet required conditions. Owners are expected to correct violations within a specified time. If maintenance issues are not addressed, the Village may take corrective action and assess costs to the property owner.
