Russells Point Water Department
DRINKING WATER NOTICE 2023
Monitoring requirements were not met for RUSSELLS POINT VILLAGE We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not your drinking water meets health standards. During September 2023, we did not complete all monitoring or testing for total coliform bacteria, and therefore, cannot be sure of the quality of your drinking water during that time.
What should I do?
There is nothing you need to do at this time. You do not need to boil your water or take other corrective actions.
This notice is to inform you that RUSSELLS POINT VILLAGE did not monitor and report results for the presence of total coliform bacteria in the public drinking water system during the September 2023 time period, as required by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
* Please note this was an administrative timing error. On August 31, 2023, a routine coliform absent sample was collected at 1900 hours, but it was taken five hours before the monitoring period of September 1-30, 2023 .
What is being done?
Upon being notified of this violation, the water supply was required to have the drinking water analyzed for the above-mentioned parameters. The water supplier will take steps to ensure that adequate monitoring will be performed in the future.

PROTECTING OUR WATER SOURCE
The Village of Russells Point has implemented and is continuing to implement protective strategies to protect the Village's source of drinking water from contamination. This notice is to help educate the public of the importance of protecting our source water.
Working with ODOT and the Ohio EPA, the Village has installed signs throughout the Village reading, "Drinking Water Protection Area Report Spills 1-800-282-9378". These signs are intended to help protect our drinking water source. If you see a possible spill, please report the spill by calling the number listed on the sign.
THE OHIO EPA HAS CONDUCTED A LIMITED ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW (LER)
The purpose of this review is for a water distribution system project in Russells Point which the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency intends to finance through its Water Supply Revolving Loan Account (WSRLA) below market interest rate revolving loan program. To review the LER findings click here.
UTILITY RATE CHANGES - effective January 2023
Beginning with the January 2023 billing cycle, utility rates will be increasing due to inflation and to provide for capital improvements to our aging water and storm water lines. The village has seen up to a 30% increase in costs in supplies, materials, and chemicals required to operate and maintain the water plant and distribution lines.
Knowing that all our residents have also recognized increased costs, the board agreed to only increase the water usage rate by 17% or $1.00 per 1,000 gallons of usage - the minimum charge will remain the same. This is the first increase since June of 2021.
The complete water and storm water rate resolution can be found here.
